Cornwall doesn’t have to be a destination just for summer – it is a fantastic place to visit all year round, and has plenty to offer.
Here is a quick guide to what’s on in Cornwall by the seasons:
Things to Do in Cornwall
JANUARY
This coming January will be your last chance to visit the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth before it completely closes and see their Monsters of the Deep exhibition.
FEBRUARY
The winter season is a great time to visit if you are a keen surfer or storm chaser with the winter months bringing in some fantastic swells, creating master waves and jaw-dropping views of our ocean waters, harbours and coastal landscape.
MARCH
Spring is a lovely season in Cornwall and coronavirus has pretty much ruined it this year. So let’s plan to make the most of it in 2021
The season starts much earlier here than the rest of the UK as we are further south bringing longer days and milder weather – so why not plan a week away from taking long walks exploring our trails, rediscovering Cornwall’s landmarks and coastal paths.
The spring is also a good time to start surfing or paddle-boarding or if you are a runner the nationwide Parkrun events will also be back with some lovely route for you.
APRIL
The arrival of Easter and the warmer climate marks the start of our event season, with Porthleven Food Festival bringing in many of the first crowds.
MAY
Obby Oss and Flora Day will be returning next May too. The Padstow May Day celebration is extremely popular and attracts visitors from around the country. Flora Day sees Helstonians dance through the town’s streets in front of packed crowds to celebrate the coming of summer.
The Falmouth River Festival happens around the end of May/June.
JUNE
Festival season is now well and truly underway! With many local food and sea festivals happening in local villages and towns – so a good time to come and visit for all you foodies out there! Plus the weather is superb at this time of year usually but the schools have yet to break up for summer – so a great time to escape for a child-free #StayCation without the crowds!

JULY
As summer holidays approach yet more festivals are planned as well as our local Mullion Harbour Day – one of our favourite events with families. Enjoy a day of family fun including harbour games, craft stalls, free kayak tasters, fun races, bar, BBQ and much more…
Penzance Literary Festival also happens in June too.
AUGUST
Mullion Scarecrow Spectacular is a fantastic one to entertain the kids with! Our little village goes scarecrow crazy over the Bank Holiday weekend. Each figure represents a different trade or profession and there is a competition to see if anyone can work out the jobs of all 66 of them.
Other events not to be missed include:
• Fowey Regatta & Carnival week
• Porthleven – Lifeboat day and Torchlight procession
• Newlyn Fish Festival
SEPTEMBER
In 2021 Cornwall will be hosting The Tour of Britain in 2021 (similar to The Tour de France), so if you’re an avid cyclist (participating or spectating) why not book your stay with us and enjoy the last of the warmer weather.
The Kids will also have gone back to school by now too – so another chance to enjoy a child-free escape and uncrowded beaches for those without families yet.
OCTOBER
As we head into Autumn our temperatures are still pretty pleasant due to our southerly location, so just like spring, October is a great time to visit to enjoy our beaches and great outdoor spaces!
The surf also picks back up with bigger swells starting to come in and the water has been warmed up from the summer sunshine – so a lovely time to be in the sea!
NOVEMBER
The leaves on the trees will have fully turned golden browns and reds by now, so November can be a beautiful time to come and visit Cornwall to see it in a different light. as well as our coastal paths we have many an enchanted woodland to explore inland in amongst our valleys too.
DECEMBER
The Christmas build-up and all the accompanying festivals begin to get underway, perhaps the most famous locally to use are the beautiful Christmas lights at Mousehole – somethings you just can’t really experience anywhere else.
And of course not forgetting the spectacular light show at The Eden Project too!
It’s a cosy time of year, with open fires in pubs and hearty food to be enjoyed, and our cottages support that cosy feeling too. Enjoy a crisp winters walk, indulgent pub food and cosy evenings.
